Colocando tejas #2 // Laying roof tiles #2

I layed the tiles around the skylight. Didn´t quite much like it but I couldn´t find a better way to do it...

The transitions between different planes resulted quite curvy. As much as I tried to make them straight, I couldn´t. I must say that the height, comnined with the need of a safety rope and a harness as I slipped at the verge of the roof didn´t give me serenity enough to make it better.

Or may it be caused by the beer I ingested each time I descended from the roof?
I prepare enough cement mix as to last not more than 90 minutes, else it would dry out. This means that every 90 minutes or so, I have to descend from the roof to prepare more cement. I use the opportunity to drink a beer with lime. Perhaps this is the reason why the lines are so crooked!!

Fortunatelly, the curvy lines cannot be seen from farther away...

Colocando tejas // Laying roof tiles

Today I worked without shirt on the roof, enjoying the delicious sun. I was wearing a climbing harness to work safely.
The marks of the harness look very suspicious!!!!  ;-)

Since the roof is quite steep, I built a small frame to hold the roof tiles close to the working area without sliding down.

With chalk I traced the references to line up the tiles.

And these are the very first tiles I laid.

Estos son tres días de trabajo.  Aun falta adquirir mucha habilidad.

This is the result from 3 days of work. I still have to gain dexterity...

Mi primer corte y transición. No me quedó nada mal!

My first cut and transition. The result is quite good!

I am getting closer to the first skylight. I am putting bricks in the periphery of the glassto have a better support.

It is very time consuming to lay the tiles on the skylight structure. It requires very detailed work.

Uuuuuuuppppppsssssss!!!!!!

Uuuuuuuppppppsssssss!!!!!! I didn´t mark the lines correctly and now I am missing a complete row... I´ll have to improvise and add a line where there is none. Else, I would have to repeat the work of many days.
First I made a test to convert three rows of tiles into only two. Then I duplicated it on the roof

A poner tejas: trayendo el material // Roof tiles: carrying the materials

¡Aleluya!

The supplier delivered 4 weeks late. His explanation: heavy rains prevented the production. Anyhow, they arrived. Halleluyah!

I requested the delivery to be at the terrace. Thus I could save the hauling by myself, which would have meant an enormous effort and delay.

The workers walk over the clay tiles without breaking them!

One person carried the tiles from the truck and delivered them to the "pitcher" who threw them to the "catcher", who in turn placed them on the terrace. In 4 hours everything was downloaded.

Un total de 6, 120 piezas!
A total of 6,120 peices!

¡¡gulp!!
I didn´t calculate if the roof can take this enormous additional load.  Gulp!!!

I fear that the rain will make the tiles wet, adding a lot of extra weight...
I better covered the tiles with burlap

A poner tejas: trazando el techo // Roof tiles: laying out the roof

The geometry of the roofs is a little orthodox...

And I have to think well how to clad the roof with tiles!

First step: define the boundaries of the different surfaces

Thereafter, I traced a line to have a clear horizontal reference

Uuuuuupsssss!!!!
Uuuuuupsssss!!!! I dropped the paint and it stained the roof  while tumbling down!!!

To avoid a horrible stain, I quickly used the wet paint for a small face

Aquí Camila empezando a sembrar:

Helmut, Marcela , Jorge

Bettina y Hubert!

Un hermoso día, con un hermoso final!!!!

¡¡¡Gracias a todos por venir!!!
