Tomorrow the long awaited workshop of COB building will start in Oaxaca. It is organized by "House Alive", an Oregon group devoted to earthen building. On Saturday, while I was driving from Puebla to Zipolite, Ted, Jason, James and Coenraad marked the place of construction and placed the bags filled with light cement for the foundation.
This is Brigitte´s house and we will build the kitchen:
The sleeping room is upstairs. The kitchen will be built using half of the ground level:
Our instructors Coenraad and James delimit the areas where the walls will be erected:
Coenraad makes a poor mix of cement to fill the bags:
Laing the bags. Particular attention has to be devoted to close the mouths well and place them against the neighbouring bag so they do not open.. The bags should be tampered so they are flattened:
The bags filled with poor cement will separate the wall from the floor to prevent that it wcks moisture and gets weak. This kind of foundation will carry a wall 2.5 meters high!
Note: I appreciate that Jason and Ted allowed me to use their pictures!
