I built a lintel in the aisle to the walking closet. The lintel rests on a small tree branch. Thus it had to be lightweight and slim. The ideal technique: wattle and daub !

I wove reeds with tule to create the internal structure that will receive the adobe.

Y en paralelo usé paja para otra parte del adobe.
In parallel I used traditional straw for other portion of the adobe.
La mezcla de las agujas de pino con la tierra fue ligeramente más trabajosa que si hubiera usado la tradicional paja.
Mixing the pine needles with the soil was slightly more difficult than using the traditional straw.
Hacer el “taco” de adobe en la lona fue igualmente fácil con las agujas de pino que con la paja.
Making the “taco” with the tarp was equally easy with both the pine needles and with the straw.
Colocar el adobe de agujas de pino en posición fue más difícil: las agujas se atoraban en la estructura del bajareque mientras que era más fácil colocar el adobe de paja. Por la misma razón el adobe-agujas de pino se unió más firmemente a la estructura de bajareque que el adobe hecho con paja.
Putting in position the adobe with pine needles was more difficult: the needles got stuck in the wattle & daub structure. The adobe with just straw could be placed more easily. For this same reason the adobe-pine needle attached to the structure better than the other adobe produced with straw.
