Captando agua de lluvia , collecting rainwater

 Para traer agua de lluvia hacia el estanque instalé una manguera en el drenaje pluvial de la calle.

To conduct rainwater to the pond, I installed a hose in the stormsewer from the street.

Calenté la manguera con un soplete para doblarla. Solo logré quemarla...

I heated the hose with a burner so I could bend it. I just burned it through...

Tuve que hincar varias estacas en el suelo para guiar la manguera en la dirección requerida.

I drove some stakes into the ground to guide the hose in the required direction.

La descarga quedó a un lado de los alcatraces.

The discharge ended byside the calla lily

Pedí un camión de tepetate para cubrir la manguera.

I ordered a truckload of earth to cover the hose

Pocas lluvias después, el estanque se llenó y se desbordó...

A few rain downpours later, the pond filled up and spilled over...

...como aun no había instalado el colector de demasías (drenaje para el nivel máximo), el flujo de agua deslavó una gran parte de la tierra recién colocada...

... since I hadn´t installed the overspill channel, the flowing water washed away a good portion of the earth recently put in place...

¡Manos a la obra! Instalé la segunda manguera para que conduzca el exceso de agua de regreso al drenaje pluvial.

Hands to work! I installed a second hose to conduct overflowing water back to the storm drainage.

Cubrí las mangueras con cemento y piedritas. Algún día rellenaré el deslave.

I covered the hoses with cement and small stones. Some day I will fill the "landslip"

Terminando la cocina / Finishing the kitchen

Fue un larguísimo camino para finalmente sentarnos en la mesa de la cocina...

It was a very long journey to finally sit at the kitchen table...

El excelente maestro marmolero bautizó esta parte como "el pescadito", "la quesadilla" o "el huarache".

The excellent master granite cutter nicknamed this piece as "the fish", "the cheese taco" or "the sandal".

El corte fue muy difícil: ¡una curva continua a lo largo de muchos metros!

The cut was very difficult: a curve along many feet!

Las molduras o faldones son muy delgadas. Increíble trabajo en piedra; ¡parece imposible que no se rompan siendo tan esbeltas!

The mounts or skirts are very thin. Awesome job in stone; it would seem impossible not to break being so slender!

La instalación fue muy rápida y exacta. El maestro es todo un profesional. ¡¡Muchas gracias Maestro Nabor!!

Colocando duela II / Laying wooden floor II

 

Así quedó la sala después de barnizar. Líneas abajo se ven los pasos para llegar aquí.

This is the look of the living room after varnishing. In the lines below you can see the steps to get here 

Una vez colocada la duela:¡a lijar!  Trabajo indispensable para que todas las duelas empaten entre sí y que tengan un terminado terso antes del barniz.

Adapté una aspiradora a una lijadora de cinta para que succione la mayor parte del polvo que se genera. 

Once the wooden floor is laid: start sanding!  This is needed so that all the pieces have the same height and have a soft finish before varnish.

I adapted a vacuum cleaner to the sander to suck most of the dust generated.

Después de lijar, enmascaré los pisos y paredes antes de barnizar.

After sanding, I masked the floor and walls before varnishing.

Ahí vengo entintando la madera de pino en un agradable tono anaranjado

Here I come painting the pine wood in a nice orange tone.

¡Terminé de entintar!

Como estaba solamente en calcetines, también entinté los pies... 😆

As was wearing only socks, so my feet are also painted... 😆

Apliqué tres capas de barniz brillante y una cuarta capa de barniz mate. ¡me gustó cómo quedó!

I applied 3 layers of shiny varnish and a last one matt. I like the looks!

Colocando duela I / Laying wooden floor I

¡Instalé una carpintería en toda regla para instalar las duelas!

I set up a carpenter´s workshop to lay the wooden floor!

Empecé por el vestidor y la "recámara de verano".

I started at the dressing room and the "summer bedroom"

Continué en la sala. Primero colocaba cintas de madera taqueteadas al piso y encima clavé la duela. De esta manera, espero varios beneficios:

* que haya buena ventilación

* que los bichos tengan donde vivir

* y que la duela rechine y cruja todo el tiempo. ¡Como en la casa que habité de niño!

I continued at the living room. First I placed wooden strips anchored to the floor. On top, I nailed the wooden floor. I expect following benefits:

* good ventilation

* that the creeters have a nice dark place to live in

* and that the floor squeaks and rattles all the time. As in the house I lived as a kid!

Fue muy laborioso hacer coincidir la duela con el piso cerámico ya existente. Había grandes diferencias de alturas y contornos. 

It was hard work to align the wooden floor with the already existing ceramic floor. There were big differences in level (heights) and contour.

Plaga en la pérgola / Plague at the trellis

 Empezó a haber aserrín sospechoso abajo de la pérgola. ¡La viga principal se infestó con varios bichos!

Suspicious sawdust appeard beneath the trellis. The main beam was infested with several creeters!

Excavé la madera descubriendo túneles profundos.

I excavated the wood, finding deep tunnels.

Había varios invasores distintos: avispas maternalmente entraban en los túneles con insectos vivos que les daban a comer a sus larvas.  También larvas diversas.

There were different intruders: tender loving wasps entered the galleries with alive insects to feed their larvae. Also several different larvae.

No tuve más remedio que quitar la pérgola y quemar la madera. Necesito impedir que invadan mi casita..

I had no other option, but to take down the trellis and burn the wood. I need to avoid an invasion of my home...
