The Wall

I finalized putting the foundation stones in place. I still have to "glue" them together with cement (I´ll actually use a mortar with one part of cement by two of lime and 6 of sand). I hope to be done next week so that soon I can start cobbing big time!!!

Creo que el muro quedará muy bonito!

I believe that the wall will be very beautful!

Barda y banca / wall and bench

This weekend I finally started to build the wall to the street. Yesterday and today I placed the stones that will be the foundation. It was very tiring but satisfying.

I was surprised with the bench. I covered it up last week with a tarp so that the rain would not turn it to mud. I uncovered it today to dry it up and discovered how ecofriendly it is. You can call it a "green bench"!!!
And it was inaugurated by Quica.

Volcadura / roll over

I was very busy and worried because Mina had a bad crash.
Thanks to God, nothing happened to her but the accident could have been deadly since she was not wearing a safety belt. Happily, the loss was limited to her car.
Obviously, I did not build that weekend...

La banca/ the bench

Today I inaugurated a rototiller of 5.5 HP that I bought yesterday in Puebla. With this device I am milling the soil and mix it with straw.

Here the mixing of clay, sand and straw. BTW the straw is courtesy from Marta, who got it in a general store.

Here the semifinished bench. Later I´ll repair the cracks, will clad it in clay and perhaps will paint it. I might put a roof and floor to have a nice corner to see into the gorge.

Today Mr. Reyes brought a rototiller from Teoloyucan ( I believe that in Spanish it is called a "floor miller"). Hopefully it can break up the soil and eases the production of cob.

The result: as a tool to break up the small clumps of soil and to mix cob, the rototiller works very well. However it did only scratch the surface of the very hard soil: the blades did not "bite" but only superficially . I believe I´ll get one,but much smaller (5 to 8 horse power).

My daughters and myself continued with the cob bench construction with "view to the gorge".

Aquí de nuevo me ayudan:

Y este es el avance al día de hoy. Espero concluir la próxima vez.
And this is today´s progress. Hopefully I will be done next time.

A big crack appeared. I believe it was generated by the to wet clay. In the next times, I´ll make the mixture drier.

Today I did almost nothing: I just prepared the foundation of the bench. In 2 weeks I´ll start the real building

Preparando la banca / preparing the bench

Today I should have started the wall to the street. However, I have suffered several delays o get the building permit: first I had to make several rounds of design and adaptations so that the Association of Neighbors would give me their approval. Later, the authorities were not acepting a draft, but required formal drawings. I guess I´ll obtain the permit in 3-4 weeks. Meanwhile, I started with the foundation of a bank / hammock. This will be a small project I hadn´t in mind.

It is oriented with view to the gorge.

The flowers are very beautiful
